A bit of history:
The family house established in Voegtlinshoffen, was founded in 1947 by Theo Cattin himself. He adapted the black bear which was on the shield of the former lords from Hattstatt as his signature as he launched the mythical "Cuvée de l'Ours Noir".
In the 1980s, Jean-Bernard Cattin, grandson of Theo Cattin, took over the winery, assisted by his wife Gaby. Their son Joseph soon joined the family winery to take charge of the vineyard operations.
In 2015, Jean-Bernard retired, and decided to pass on his business to his younger cousin Jacques Cattin and his wife Anaïs. The two of them work with Joseph, who manages the vineyard.
Our vineyards, planted mostly on the foothills of the Vosges and peaking at nearly 350 meters, are located around Voegtlinshoffen and Colmar. In this region, the cradle of Alsace wines, the vineyard benefits from a wide diversity of soil: marl and limestone, clay and limestone, gypsum, clay, loess...
In addition to this geological richness, the vines enjoy a dry continental climate with one of the lowest rainfall in France.
To protect the unique terroir, we work with the principle of sustainable agriculture, according to which we can produce great wines of Alsace whose typical varietal joins the variety of soils to compose a unique and racy range.
The wines and Crémants d'Alsace from Théo Cattin reflect the diversity of the Alsatian grape varieties combined with the various soils in which the vines flourish.
