The soils of our remarkable plots

Grand Cru du Hatschbourg

Between the village of Voegtlinshoffen and of Hattstatt, is a historic site of the Alsatian vineyard: the Grand Cru from Hatschbourg. The legend says that the name “Hatschbourg” comes from the first castle that the lords of Hattstatt have built in those places. Hattstatt old Gallo-Roman city named “Altevic” seems to have always been a wine-growing area. The vines, planted on hillsides at an altitude varying from 200 to 330 meters, flourish in this limestone-marl soil, deep, heavy and well drained. On those plots, among the eldest of our property, we grow Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer.

Lieux-dit Gypsgrube

Located near the village of Hattstatt, the lieux-dit Gypsgrube is known for the unique quality of its soil since the 14th century. The name of the locality comes from its soil made of gypsum, limestone loaded in minerals, dug by drops of water saturated with CO2. We grow Riesling in the soils, which produces this mineral wine, dry and complex.

Lieux-dit Bollenberg

The imposing hill of Bollenberg, located between Rouffach and Issenheim, is a part of the legendary heritage of the Alsatian vineyards. The soil, dry and chalky clay, contains iron-rich minerals that give an ochre color to the land. It is a very dry area where it rains an average of 500mm per year. We grow Gewurztraminer, which will give a complex wine, with an intense aromatic bouquet.
